Carlstadt was the home of the first public Kindergarten in America. The dedication to public education continues to this day, as Carlstadt voters have recently approved a 24 million dollar referendum to build the most modern grade school in Bergen County. With the Council's leadership, the new school will be built incorporating all the amenities necessary to serve the Borough for the next fifty years.

The Council and Planning Board of Carlstadt have been working hard to promote responsible development for the Borough while curtailing real estate speculators. The Borough has succeeded in revitalizing Hackensack and Garden Streets while protecting residential neighborhoods.
Recently the Meadowlands Commission has committed $3 million to purchase and set aside a large parcel of waterfront property. By denying developers the chance to build residential housing east of Route 17, this purchase will insure that all citizens of our community remain in close proximity to each other and to the centers of town government. This includes the poorest and richest among us. Carlstadt is one town in Jersey where all its members stand shoulder-to-shoulder.
Carlstadt recreation is among the finest in New Jersey. The Borough boasts active Baseball, Soccer, Hockey, Basketball, and Football leagues all within the town's borders. No expense has been spared in making athletic participation available to all neighborhood children. And interested adults can participate in the many senior leagues organized at Lindbergh field. |
